Leave and Work Schedules

By managing absence, leave, and work schedules, supervisors allow employees to maintain the proper balance between work and private life responsibilities as well as allow employees rest periods to maintain vitality in the workplace.

Leave is an approved absence from work for various reasons personal to employees that include: sick leave, annual leave, military leave, court leave, etc. Absences and leave are inevitable occurrences and, in the case of planned vacation time, desired behavior within an organization.

Work schedules establish regular beginning and ending times for the performance of work. Establishment of work schedules is subject to the approval of the supervisor. Goddard has a Maxiflex work schedule arrangement which enables many employees and supervisors to plan a work schedule which accommodates both work requirements and the employee’s needs.

Teleworking provides eligible civil service employees the opportunity to work part of their work schedule at an alternate work site away from the regular workplace. This program is intended to provide flexibility to both the supervisor and employee and is a management option rather than an employee entitlement. Employee participation is voluntary and subject to supervisor approval.
