Awards |
The Awards Program at the Goddard Space Flight Center is intended to recognize employees for their job performance, performance exceeding job requirements, and their outstanding contributions to the NASA mission. NASA employees can view their awards information through the HR Portal. At Goddard, awards can be very broadly divided into two categories: Incentive Awards and Center-wide Awards. Incentive Awards are those awards which are directly within the purview of the manager or supervisor for which approval authorities vary based upon the type of incentive award to be granted and the employee's assignment as General Schedule (GS), Wage Grade (WG), Senior Executive Service (SES), Senior Technical (ST) or Senior Leader (SL). Management/Supervisory Officials should be aware of the special approval required by the Center Director on any award (cash or time off) for an SES/ST/SL employee. An email request containing a short justification (2-3 sentences) should be sent through the appropriate channels for approval prior to inputting the award into the NASA Automated Awards System (NAAS). For a full preview of award authorities, see Award Approval Authorities for GS, WG, SES/ST/SL Employees. Center-wide Awards include a formal nomination, review and selection process and include Robert H. Goddard Awards, and Colloquium/Memorial Awards. These awards are highlighted in the Center's semi-annual award calls. Within each of these categories, there are a variety of award types that can be matched to the particular effort deserving recognition. In determining the appropriate type of award, it is important to consider the award type that might be most valued by the performer and whether the award is proportionate to the scope of the act.
