How to Request an On-Site Course OfferingHQ managers and employees should first refer to the SATERN catalog to see if training requirements can be met by scheduled on-site courses at HQ. If so, registration can be done through SATERN. If your training requirement cannot be met by a scheduled offering, the HQ Training Office should be contacted for assistance. See the contacts and phone numbers for various programs and subject areas. The requestor should be prepared to identify the type of training or development required, number of potential students, preferred time frame for delivery, possible vendors (if known) and any other relevant information. The training office contact, in consultation with the requesting organization, will determine the most effective way to meet the training need. If the course is specifically for one particular Code, then it usually will be funded through the Code allocation. If it appears that a sufficient number of students may exist to warrant an on-site offering, the HQ Training Office will coordinate details such as course advertising, vendor negotiations, room booking and setup, and course administration including collection of training requests, notification of participants, oversight of the instruction, and input of completions into the NASA training data base. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that his/her management supports the training and sufficient Code training funds are available. If a sufficient number of students do not exist for an on-site offering, the HQ Training Office can also assist the individual in finding an off-site offering. In general, it is to NASAs advantage to hold training on-site if possible. On-site courses usually cost about 30% less per student than off-site courses. In addition, travel costs can be avoided and the course can often be "tailored" to the HQ environment. |
