Funding for Training

There are three distinct training funds - Code Allocations, HQ Central, and Agency. Each Code is allotted a yearly budget to provide its employees academic and non-academic training opportunities. Except as defined below, the support of training activities is managed through Code allocations. Most of the Central and Agency fund is devoted to the following programs:

• Agency-wide NASA sponsored training and development such as APPEL, Fellowship Program, Leadership Development Program, NASA FIRST and other Agency courses/programs. For more information on these, refer to the Agency Office of Human Capital Management Web-site.
• HQ on-site training courses are open to all HQ employees
• Academic programs such as the Continuing Education Program and the Graduate Study Program are Central funded.
• HQ-wide initiatives such as IT Security, Safety and Equal Opportunity.
• Beginning in FY01 retreats will be Central funded as funds permit. Only costs for a facilitator and meeting room can be funded with Training funds. Lodging, food and per diem cannot be funded with Training funds.
